Romania shines at the Balkan Road Championship with 13 medals
Romania's cycling team has made a remarkable mark at the Balkan Road Championship held in Pristina, Kosovo, from June 5 to 7, 2026, winning a total of 13 medals. This impressive haul includes 4 Balkan titles and 1 vice-champion title, showcasing the strength and talent of Romanian athletes.
Represented by 24 athletes across Elite, U19, and U17 categories, the team began the competition with a strong performance on the first day, securing seven medals. Among the highlights, Mara Perșoiu triumphed as the Balkan champion in the U17 women's category, while Gabriel Andronache claimed the title in the U19 men's category.
The second day of competition saw Ioana Pătrașcu also becoming a Balkan champion at U17 women. Other notable achievements include Ianis Sinu earning a silver medal in U17 men's, and multiple bronze medals collected by Cătălina Cătineanu, Ovidiu Dorcu, and Antonia Orzan in various categories. In the Elite category, Wendy Bunea stood out by securing the championship title for women, with Cătălina Cătineanu also finishing strong in third place.
Cătălin Sprinceană, president of the Romanian Cycling Federation, expressed pride in the results achieved by the athletes, emphasizing that Romania is one of the largest and most decorated teams at the event. He also commended the athletes for their dedication and the technical team for the successful organization of the event.
The Romanian delegation, coordinated by Georgios Georgiadis, Filip Grigorescu, Marcel Gheorghe, Ioan Dobrin, and Petre Trică, demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, as numerous athletes competed across multiple categories. The performance at this championship not only highlights the individual talents but also the collective effort of the entire team.
