CSM Slatina invests in a bright future for local football

CSM Slatina is taking significant strides to enhance its presence in Romanian football, particularly as it competes in Liga 2 and dreams of promotion to SuperLiga. A major part of this vision is the investment in a new sports complex that will feature a state-of-the-art arena, boasting 10,000 seats and a total cost of 400 million lei, approximately 80 million euros.

The new facility, alongside two natural grass pitches and two synthetic fields, demonstrates CSM Slatina's commitment to developing local talent. This investment is not just about infrastructure; it reflects a belief in the potential of Slatina's young athletes. Gică Craioveanu, a former professional player and now a guiding figure for the club, has emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent, stating that the region can produce players capable of making it in Spain.

Craioveanu, who spent much of his childhood in Slatina, has a storied career that includes playing for clubs like Villarreal, where he made 103 appearances and scored 26 goals. After retiring in 2006, he remains a beloved figure in Romanian football, celebrated for his contributions to Universitatea Craiova and the national team, where he scored 4 goals in 25 appearances.

Recognized for his achievements, Craioveanu recently shared his pride in being honored alongside other football legends, like Ionel Dănciulescu and Claudiu Niculescu. He noted that for him, pride in one’s roots is vital, and he aims to promote talented players from Slatina to the professional scene.
