Sixteen Romanian police officers honored for their role in capturing a notorious drug trafficker

In a significant recognition of bravery and collaboration, 16 Romanian police officers have been decorated for their roles in the capture of Mohamed Amra, a French drug trafficker who had escaped from custody in France. The ceremony, organized by the French Embassy in Bucharest, highlighted the strong partnership between Romania and France in the realm of security.

Cătălin Predoiu, the interim Minister of Internal Affairs, emphasized the importance of this cooperation, noting that Romania is a reliable partner in the European security architecture. He also pointed out that the country contributes actively to police cooperation within the Schengen area, showcasing its commitment to regional safety.

Amra's capture comes after a dramatic escape that occurred nine months prior, during which two prison officers lost their lives and three more were seriously injured. Predoiu remarked on the enhanced exchange of information that has strengthened police collaboration, leading to faster and more effective security measures.

This event not only honors the dedication of the police force but also reinforces Romania's active role in ensuring safety and security, both domestically and in cooperation with international partners.
