At a recent reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, President Nicușor Dan reaffirmed Romania's unwavering commitment to democratic values as the United States celebrated 250 years since its Declaration of Independence.

In his speech, Dan emphasized that Romania stands strong alongside the United States in defending freedom and democracy, highlighting the importance of shared values as the most powerful weapon of the Western world. He expressed gratitude for the support Romania has received from the U.S. and NATO allies, especially in light of the ongoing conflict initiated by Russia against Ukraine.

As Romania approaches 30 years of Strategic Partnership with the United States in 2027, and 20 years of EU membership, along with 23 years of NATO membership, Dan pointed out the critical nature of this alliance. He stated that the partnership is built on common values and that Romania fully accepts its responsibility for its own defense, actively participating in the European effort to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security.

Looking ahead, Dan is set to present Romania's military modernization measures at the upcoming NATO Summit. He also underlined the importance of American support for Romania's strategic goal of joining the OECD, reiterating that democracy must be renewed and protected, a responsibility Romania proudly shares with the United States.

Reflecting on his own family history, Dan shared that his grandfather left Eastern Europe for America, a country he described as exceptional for being founded on an exceptional idea. He expressed a heartfelt message of unity, stating, 'The strongest weapon we have is unity,' and concluded with a warm wish: 'Happy Independence Day!'
