David Galbraith appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest

David Galbraith has been named the new Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, a role that highlights the ongoing commitment between Romania and the United States. His extensive experience in international diplomacy is set to strengthen this important partnership.

Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg shared the news of Galbraith's appointment on the embassy's official Facebook page, underlining the significance of this leadership change. Galbraith brings a wealth of knowledge, having served in various countries including Colombia, Myanmar, Venezuela, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

Nicușor Dan, the President of Romania, expressed confidence in the strong and trustworthy relationship between Romania and the United States. He noted that the partnership is solid and that prospects for the future look promising, particularly in areas such as security, the presence of American troops in Romania, and American investments in the country.

Galbraith's impressive background includes high-level leadership positions in Washington, such as Director of the Office for Africa and the Middle East within the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and Deputy Director of the Office for Southern European Affairs. He has also worked for the National Security Council as Director for Gulf States.

With a master's degree in public administration specializing in international development from Harvard Kennedy School, Galbraith is well-equipped for his new role. He spent five years in the private sector before joining the State Department, and he is married to fellow diplomat Alyce Abdalla. Together, they have three children.

A notable aspect of Galbraith's preparation for his new assignment is his proactive approach to language learning; he studied Romanian prior to his arrival and has expressed a genuine fondness for the language. He looks forward to conversing in Romanian with partners and friends across the country, further enhancing the ties between the two nations.
