Romania shines with five new Blue Flag beaches in 2026

Romania is set to be featured on the global 'Blue Flag' map in 2026, celebrating its commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental quality.

The Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism announced this exciting news on Facebook, highlighting the achievement of several beaches in the country. A total of five beaches have received the prestigious 'Blue Flag' label, a mark of excellence in environmental standards.

The beaches awarded the 'Blue Flag' status include Axxis Nova and Phoenicia in Năvodari, as well as Azur and Citadel in Eforie Sud. Additionally, Phoenicia Blue View in Olimp has also earned this recognition, showcasing the beauty and quality of Romania's coastline.

To obtain the 'Blue Flag' certification, beaches must meet 33 specific criteria organized across four key areas: environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, and safety and services. This rigorous evaluation process ensures that only the best beaches are recognized for their sustainable practices.

Looking ahead, Eforie Sud's Dharma beach is already in the pilot phase for the 2027 edition, preparing to meet the necessary criteria for future certification. The international 'Blue Flag' program, initiated in 1987 by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), aims to reward beaches, marinas, and boats that promote sustainable tourism.

In Romania, the implementation of this program began in 2004, and the annual evaluations are carried out by a national jury that includes representatives from central public authorities and tourism associations. This collective effort underscores Romania's dedication to enhancing its natural resources and promoting responsible tourism.
