Solmeria launches in Romania with innovative solar and battery projects
The European marketplace Solmeria is making its debut in Romania, beginning with two hybrid solar and battery projects in Cluj County. These initiatives boast a total photovoltaic capacity of 6.2 MWp and a substantial storage capacity of 24 MWh, marking a significant step in the country’s renewable energy landscape.
The first project features a photovoltaic capacity of 4.2 MWp, paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that has a power output of 4 MW and a storage capacity of 16 MWh. This battery is designed for four hours of storage, allowing for efficient energy management.
The second project contributes an additional 2 MWp of photovoltaic capacity and includes a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 MW/8 MWh. Both projects have received technical connection approvals at medium voltage, set at 20 kV, and are backed by non-repayable European grants totaling approximately 1.5 million EUR.
Developers can list projects separately on the Solmeria platform, which connects renewable project developers with investors, independent power producers (IPPs), and EPC contractors. This approach simplifies transactions, with deals potentially concluding within three weeks of project publication.
Solmeria's model, which does not impose a fixed retainer fee but charges a commission upon successful transaction closure, offers an attractive alternative for trading projects of 2-10 MWp that might be challenging to maneuver through traditional M&A processes.
With over 300 registered buyers across Europe, including significant interest from France and Italy, the platform provides Romanian developers direct access to international companies without needing to build their own buyer networks. This facilitates local investors and developers in finding substantial opportunities.
The projects also incorporate agrivoltaic installations, which combine agriculture and solar energy systems on the same site. They can be acquired together or separately, providing flexibility for potential buyers.
Solmeria is the new brand operated by the French company Ferme Solaire SAS, which has over 150 development partners and is in the process of authorizing more than 4 GW of projects. The company aims for comprehensive European coverage by summer 2027, following its successful launches in France and Italy. Maxime Courtaigne, the CEO of Solmeria, is leading this ambitious expansion into Romania, which is set to enhance the country’s renewable energy capabilities.
