Romania shines at European Statistics Competition with third place achievement
Romania has proudly secured the third place in the Junior category at the European Statistics Competition (CES) 2025-2026. The achievement highlights the exceptional talent of the team from Colegiul Naţional 'Onisifor Ghibu' in Oradea, who showcased their skills through a compelling video titled 'Statistical portrait: what are the people of Romania like?'.
The DATAOUT team, comprised of Rareş Bogdan Hodăian, Eduard Hoti, and Bogdan Ştefan Silaghi, was guided by their dedicated coordinator, prof. Cătălina Mitraşcă. Their outstanding performance not only earned them third place at the European level but also a first prize at the National Statistics Olympiad with a perfect score.
In this competitive environment, Romania was represented by a significant number of participants. A total of 5,327 Romanian students, organized into 1,919 teams, participated in both categories of the competition, making Romania one of the European Union countries with the highest number of participants. The competition itself saw an impressive turnout, with 28,832 students from 9,096 teams across 2,293 schools in 22 EU countries.
The event, which aimed to stimulate curiosity and interest in official statistics among young people, was organized under the auspices of the National Institute of Statistics and the Ministry of Education and Research, with the coordination of the European Commission (EUROSTAT). Support was also generously provided by the Faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics, and Economic Informatics at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
The top teams, including DATAOUT and LTT from Argeş, advanced to the European stage, ranking among the top 12 finalists in their category. The best finalist videos will be featured on EUROSTAT's website and social media accounts, further promoting the importance of statistics in understanding society.
