Brașov students to showcase their skills at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Miruna-Ioana Ungureanu and Dumitru-Vlad Crepșe, two talented students from Universitatea Transilvania Brașov, are set to represent Romania at the prestigious WorldSkills competition in Shanghai in 2026. Both students are enrolled in the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, where they have been honing their skills in mechatronics.

WorldSkills is the largest international competition dedicated to professional and technical skills, bringing together around 1,400 competitors from over 70 countries and regions. At this year's event, Romania will be showcased in 11 sections, with mechatronics being one of the key areas within the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology category.

The mechatronics competition challenges participants to demonstrate their abilities in mechanical assembly, electrical and pneumatic systems, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex mechatronic systems. The preparation for the Brașov team is taking place at the Center for Excellence in Mechatronics at their university.

In recent competitions, the Brașov mechatronics students have excelled, winning three medals of excellence at EuroSkills Gdansk 2023, WorldSkills Lyon 2024, and EuroSkills Herning 2025. They also earned the Best of Nation Award last year, highlighting their exceptional skills and dedication.

The Romanian delegation, consisting of 45 members, will participate in WorldSkills Shanghai from September 22 to 27. This initiative is coordinated by WorldSkills România and supported by partners including the Ministry of Education and Research, educational institutions, and the business sector, with additional backing from the Erasmus+ program.
