Romania shines at Balkan Mountain Bike Championship with three gold medals

Romania's mountain biking talent was on full display at the Balkan XCO Championship, where the nation secured an impressive three gold medals. This year's event took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, showcasing the strength and skill of Romanian cyclists.

Roland Szigyarto emerged as a standout competitor, becoming the Balkan champion in the U17 category with a significant lead of about one minute over his closest rival. In the U19 category, Mihai Brînză put in a remarkable performance, finishing the race nearly three minutes ahead of the second and third place athletes.

Victor Aron also contributed to Romania's success by winning the U23 category. In the elite ranks, Patrick Pescaru claimed the silver medal, despite facing challenges during the race, including two punctures. His teammate, Roberto Burţa, earned a bronze medal in the elite category, further solidifying Romania's strong presence.

The country also celebrated achievements in the U19 and U17 categories, with Matei Petre securing a bronze and Adelina Marinescu finishing third in her category. Sofia Zama and Radu Măda also represented Romania well, finishing fourth and sixth in the U19 category, respectively.

Cătălin Sprinceană, president of the Romanian Cycling Federation, expressed pride in the athletes’ accomplishments, noting that these results reinforce Romania's position as one of the strongest countries in cycling within the Balkans. He highlighted the ongoing investment in the development of young athletes as a key factor in their success and expressed confidence in the future of Romanian mountain biking.

With a total of seven medals at the Balkan XCO Championship, including the three golds, Romania continues to build on its rich cycling legacy and aims for even greater achievements in European competitions ahead.
