Romania secures a decisive victory against Azerbaijan in European League
The Romanian national volleyball team celebrated a significant achievement by securing their second victory in the European League 2026. They triumphed over Azerbaijan with an impressive score of 3-0, showcasing their strength on the court with set scores of 25-23, 25-12, and 25-7.
This victory took place during the tournament held in Mioveni on Friday, where the team continues to build momentum after their earlier win against Kosovo, also by a score of 3-0. Romania previously faced a setback against Latvia, losing 0-3 in their opening match, but has since bounced back with two solid wins.
Looking ahead, Romania is set to face Spain in their next match in Mioveni on Sunday. The team aims to secure a top finish as they strive for a spot in the semifinals, which would bring them closer to qualifying for the European Championship in 2028.
The excitement doesn't stop there; Romania's journey in the European League will continue with upcoming matches against Denmark and Albania later this month. As the tournament progresses, Romania's objective remains clear: finishing among the top four to earn a place in the prestigious European Championship, which will take place from September 9 to 26.
In the backdrop of this sporting success, national team coach Sergiu Stancu recently announced his departure from Arcada Galaţi, where he achieved remarkable success over seven and a half years, including five titles, a Romanian Cup, and two Super Cups. His leadership has undoubtedly shaped the team's current success as they head into this crucial phase of competition.
In the upcoming European Championship, Romania will compete in Group D, alongside formidable teams such as Latvia, France, Germany, Turkey, and Switzerland, all hosted in Cluj-Napoca. With high hopes and a resilient spirit, the Romanian team is ready to take on the challenges ahead.
