Radu Niţu secures bronze medal in men's individual sabre at World Championships

Radu Niţu has made a remarkable achievement by winning the bronze medal in the men's individual sabre event at the World Fencing Championships held in Hong Kong. At just 21 years old, he has already showcased his talent on an international stage.

The competition took place on July 27, 2026, where Radu fought hard but was ultimately defeated in the semifinals by Pavel Graudin, with a score of 15-8. His performance in the tournament highlights the promise of a bright future in fencing for this young athlete.

In addition to Radu's success, Amalia Covaliu also represented Romania with determination. She placed 25th in the women's sabre competition, which occurred on July 26. Amalia was the only Romanian female fencer to advance to the main draw, after winning all her qualifying matches, including a strong start with a 15-10 victory against Gulistan Perdebaeva.

Unfortunately, Amalia faced a setback when she lost to Alina Mikhailova with a score of 15-8. The women's sabre event was highly competitive, featuring 135 athletes, and Amalia's efforts showcased her potential and resilience.

The Romanian sabre team is guided by a dedicated coaching staff, including Alin Badea, Tiberiu Dolniceanu, and Irina Covaliu. Meanwhile, Vlad Covaliu is set to face Benedek Dallos in the first round of the men's competition, adding to the excitement of the championships.
