Romania Achieves Remarkable 24.6% Rate in EU Fund Absorption
For the first time, Romania has emerged as a leader in EU fund absorption, achieving an effective rate of 24.6%. This impressive milestone comes under the Bolojan Government, which has positioned the country among the top states in the European Union.
In stark contrast, the previous Ciolacu Government managed only 600 million euros in effective absorption from non-reimbursable cohesion funds, resulting in a low absorption rate of just 2% by the end of 2024. The EU average absorption rate during the same period was 2.7%, highlighting the significant progress made under the current leadership.
In the first half of this year alone, Romania absorbed 2.3 billion euros effectively, surpassing the EU average effective absorption rate of 17.8%. These figures reflect a positive trend and suggest a commitment to better utilization of European funds.
Siegfried Mureşan, a europarliamentarian from PNL, shared these developments on social media, emphasizing the importance of these achievements for Romania's economic future. Meanwhile, Marcel Ciolacu, the former Prime Minister, has been vocal about the challenges faced during his tenure, accusing his successors of delaying essential projects that could have further benefited Romania.
In a heated exchange, Ciolacu accused Ilie Bolojan and Dragoş Pîslaru, the interim Minister of European Funds, of premeditated actions that cost the country billions from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Pîslaru responded, dismissing Ciolacu's comments as a 'ChatGPT post' and pointing out that delays in PNRR projects were a legacy of the previous government.
As Romania continues to navigate its path towards maximizing EU funding, the recent achievements signal a positive shift and a hopeful outlook for the country’s economic growth.
