Private equity and venture capital create nearly 20,000 jobs in Romania
In a remarkable display of growth, companies funded by private equity and venture capital have generated nearly 20,000 new jobs in Romania from 2019 to 2024. This surge in employment is a testament to the rapid expansion of these sectors, with a compound annual growth rate of 11.5%, significantly outpacing the overall economy's growth rate of just 1.1%.
The financial landscape for private equity and venture capital in Romania has also seen significant investments, reaching 433.6 million euros in 2025. This marks the second-best year in the history of the local market, with a total of 405 million euros coming specifically from private equity. The growth in this sector has been supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which has helped attract substantial capital.
Between 2024 and 2025, funds attracted an impressive 453.7 million euros, with public institutions and government agencies contributing about 227 million euros, or 50% of the total funds raised. Individual investors followed suit, contributing 143.1 million euros. The total capital raised by Romanian private equity and venture capital funds has now reached 197.5 million euros.
The impact of these investments has been profound, generating an additional 3.26 billion euros in turnover and contributing between 0.6% and 0.8% to Romania's GDP annually. In total, companies supported by these funds have produced a gross added value of 11.2 billion euros over the past five years.
Investment activity has also intensified, with the average transaction value rising to 21.3 million euros in 2025, up from 6.6 million euros in 2024. The number of transactions increased from 15 to 19, reflecting a growing appetite for investment in Romania's economy. Key sectors contributing to this growth include retail, energy, health, and IT.
As a sign of the market's maturity, the total value of exits rose to 662.4 million euros in 2025, up from 98.2 million euros in 2024. This shows a thriving ecosystem where companies are not only growing but also successfully transitioning to strategic buyers.
Overall, the private equity and venture capital sectors are playing a crucial role in Romania's economic landscape, fostering job creation and driving forward the country’s economic development.
