George Dragomir wins bronze medal in men's individual sabre at European Championships
George Dragomir has made his mark at the European Fencing Championships by securing a bronze medal in the men's individual sabre event. The competition took place in Antony, France, showcasing some of the best talents in fencing from across the continent.
Dragomir entered the tournament directly in the second round, where he quickly demonstrated his skill by defeating Santiago Madrigal with a score of 15-7. He continued his impressive performance by overcoming Sandro Bazadze in the round of 16, winning 15-13, and then edged past Krisztian Rabb in the quarter-finals with a narrow victory of 15-14.
Despite his strong showing, Dragomir faced a setback in the semi-finals against Jean-Philippe Patrice, losing with a score of 7-15. The title ultimately went to Patrice, who triumphed over Maxime Pianfetti in the final match, finishing 15-13.
In addition to Dragomir's achievements, Andras Szatmari also secured a bronze medal in the competition. Other Romanian competitors included Răzvan Ursachi, who placed 23rd, and Vlad Covaliu at 27th, while Radu Nițu finished in 36th place.
The women's foil event saw notable performances as well, with Rebeca Cândescu finishing 22nd, Andreea Dincă in 26th, and Emilia Corbu placing 32nd. Olga Sopit shone brightly by winning the gold medal, defeating Arianna Errigo 15-8 in the final. Both Maria Marino and Vladislava Peniuşkina secured bronze medals in the women’s foil category, adding to the success of the Romanian team at the championships.
