A remarkable 77% of companies in Romania are making strides towards a circular economy, showcasing a commitment to sustainability that is increasingly resonating in the business landscape. This transition is further supported by the fact that one in ten companies is focusing on renewable energy as part of their strategy.

Investment in employee training and technology upgrades is also on the rise, with 62% of companies prioritizing these areas. Additionally, 54% are channeling funds into optimizing resource use and selecting sustainable raw materials, alongside equal investment in research, development, and innovation projects.

Despite these positive shifts, financing remains a significant challenge for many businesses. A striking 84% of companies rely on their own resources for funding, indicating a need for improved financial support systems. High costs associated with modernization and the adoption of renewable energy solutions are concerns for 58% and 40% of companies, respectively.

The growing interest among Romanian consumers in sustainable products and services reflects a positive trend, although price remains the foremost factor influencing purchasing decisions. The insights come from a Deloitte study conducted from September 2025 to April 2026, which surveyed 55 local companies across various sectors, including manufacturing, FMCG, construction, and services.

Representatives from sustainability departments and top management participated in the study, highlighting a collective effort towards sustainable practices. With Deloitte's extensive history and their presence in over 150 countries, the findings signal a significant movement towards a more sustainable future in Romania.
