1,700 students make Romania greener through Eco Provocarea

In a remarkable display of commitment to the environment, 1,732 students across Romania have come together to transform their communities into greener spaces. This initiative is part of the 15th edition of Eco Provocarea, a national movement and annual competition that encourages environmental stewardship among young people.

This year, 49 teams from across the country participated, including 56 high school teams and 93 teams from primary and gymnasium levels. The collective efforts of these eco-ambassadors have led to the recycling of 134 tons of waste and the planting of 75,000 trees, significantly contributing to a healthier environment.

The program has also engaged approximately 600 teachers and reached around 60,000 students with vital lessons in environmental education. Over its 15 years, Eco Provocarea has produced more than 12,500 eco-ambassadors who are actively changing their surroundings for the better.

In addition to making a tangible impact, the competition rewarded participants with prizes totaling 55,000 lei. Ten high school teams earned spots in a leadership training camp focused on environmental issues, while 13 junior teams received cash prizes ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 lei.

Since its inception, Eco Provocarea has seen a staggering 1,134,626 kilograms of recyclable waste processed and has planted a total of 468,782 trees throughout Romania. With 137,858 students receiving environmental education, the program continues to inspire the next generation of eco-conscious leaders.
