Vulcana Băi takes the lead in digital transformation for local governance

Emil Drăghici, the mayor of Vulcana Băi and president of the Association of Communes in Romania, is advocating for rapid digitalization among local administrations. With a looming deadline of August 25 for all municipalities to enroll in the ghișeul.ro platform, urgency is in the air.

As of now, over 900 local administrations have yet to complete this crucial step, leaving more than two and a half million Romanians unable to access the benefits of digital services. Vice Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu highlighted that more than a quarter of the municipalities in Romania have not fulfilled this legal obligation, stressing the importance of enrollment.

The stakes are high; the law dictates that failure to enroll will lead to the suspension of local budget funding. This funding is vital as it includes shares of income tax and allocations from certain state budget revenues, which support local services and projects.

Emil Drăghici’s position as a member of the European Committee of the Regions places him in a critical role to influence and guide local leaders towards embracing digital solutions. As the deadline approaches, mayors across the country are urged to take action and ensure their municipalities are prepared for a more connected future.
