Valeriu Iftime reflects on youth football development in Romania
Valeriu Iftime, the owner of FC Botoșani, recently shared insights about the pressing challenges in Romanian football, particularly in the development of young players. He emphasized the importance of successful models, pointing to Gheorghe Hagi's academy as a benchmark for excellence in the country.
Iftime acknowledged, 'Avem sigur o problemă în fotbalul românesc, o înțelegem și o conștientizăm toți,' highlighting a collective awareness of the issues at hand. He specifically noted, 'Dacă cineva o știe, ar fi interesant să o spună,' inviting open discussion on potential solutions.
Hagi's academy, established in 2009, has become one of Romania's premier youth training centers, producing notable talents such as Răzvan Marin, Ianis Hagi, and Florinel Coman. The academy has won numerous national titles at the youth level and has been a critical resource for Romania's national teams.
Reflecting on Hagi's success, Iftime stated, 'A făcut o academie de mare succes în România,' and acknowledged the achievements of Hagi's teams, including the championship win in the 2022-2023 season following their merger with Farul Constanța.
In the current league standings, Farul Constanța is positioned 7th with 17 points, while FC Botoșani sits at 11th with 14 points, both teams facing similar challenges with four losses this season. Iftime remains optimistic that with the right focus and strategies, Romanian football can nurture and develop its young talents more effectively.
