Tudor Henry shines as Romania's vice-champion at the World Youth Chess Championship
At just 15 years old, Tudor Henry has made a remarkable impact on the world stage by winning the silver medal at the World Youth Chess Championship, held in Montesilvano from June 15 to 26. This achievement marks one of the most significant recent successes for Romanian youth chess.
Representing CSM Constanța, Tudor competed fiercely among 758 players from 83 countries, showcasing his skills in the Open 16 category. Over the course of 11 rounds, he secured eight victories and one draw, accumulating a total of 8.5 points, which placed him firmly in second position.
The competition featured 155 players from 70 countries, highlighting the international nature of the event. Tudor's performance is a testament to his talent, as he faced off against formidable opponents, including Khagan Ahmad, who had an ELO of 2480 and finished first with 9.5 points, and Sauat Nurgaliyev, who secured third place with 8.5 points and an ELO of 2490.
With an ELO rating of 2460, Tudor Henry's ascent in the chess world signifies Romania's return to the elite ranks of youth chess. His success has been celebrated by the Romanian Chess Federation, which shared the news on their official Facebook page, as well as by CSM Constanța, who extended their congratulations to him and all who supported his journey.
