Romania is building a strong foundation for its tourism industry, welcoming 13.9 million visitors last year. This remarkable figure highlights the country's capacity to attract tourists, despite the majority being domestic travelers.

Over 80% of tourists in Romania are residents, who often take weekend getaways to explore the beauty of their own country. This trend shows a growing appreciation among Romanians for their diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.

Among the visitors, only 2.6 million were international tourists, with Bucharest emerging as the top destination for those coming from abroad. Many of these foreign visitors arrived in the capital for business purposes or to enjoy city breaks, indicating a mix of professional and leisure interests.

To enhance its appeal, Romania has allocated a budget of 4.5 million euros for tourism promotion this year, which is double the amount spent last year. However, experts consider this budget to be insufficient for maximizing the country's tourism potential.

With its unique attractions and the strong interest from local travelers, Romania possesses all the ingredients necessary to become a significant destination for tourists in the future.
