Romania's Handball Team Set to Face France in European Championship Qualifiers
Romania's national handball team will kick off its journey in the qualifiers for the 2028 European Championship with a match against France on November 5. This highly anticipated encounter marks the beginning of a challenging group stage.
Just three days later, the Romanian team will play at home in Tulcea's new arena against Poland. These initial games are crucial as they set the tone for the rest of the qualifiers, which will continue into 2027 starting in March.
In March, Romania will face Latvia, with the first match scheduled for March 10 or 11, and the return leg on March 13 or 14. Following that, they will revisit France for a return match on May 5 or 6, followed by a clash with Poland on May 9.
The stakes are high, as the top two teams from each of the eight groups will qualify for the final tournament in 2028. Additionally, the best four third-placed teams will also earn a spot, increasing Romania's chances to compete on a larger stage.
The final tournament is set to take place from January 13 to 30, 2028, across Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland, with the host nations and defending champion Denmark participating in the EHF Euro Cup, a semi-official competition for teams already qualified for the championship.
