Romania's car exports to the UK reach £1.3 billion

Romania has made significant strides in its trade relations with the United Kingdom, exporting £1.3 billion worth of automobiles. This impressive figure accounts for nearly one-third of all goods imported by the UK from Romania, with cars making up 30.4% of the total.

The latest data, presented by the Romanian-British Chamber of Commerce (BRCC), reveals a robust growth in bilateral trade, reaching £10.3 billion in 2025. Compared to the previous period, trade exchanges between Romania and the UK have increased by 4.9%, showcasing a strengthening economic partnership.

British exports to Romania have also seen an uptick, rising by 7% to £3 billion. Meanwhile, imports from Romania to the UK advanced by 4% to £7.3 billion. Other notable Romanian exports to the UK include beverages, tobacco products, industrial machinery, and electrical equipment.

The integration of companies from both countries into supply chains in the automotive industry, industrial production, and electrical equipment sectors is significant. Additionally, British service exports to Romania grew by 16.1%, totaling £1.5 billion, with travel being the most substantial category.

In contrast, British investments in Romania have decreased by nearly 20%, dropping to £752 million at the end of 2024. However, Romanian investments in the UK have increased by 22.2%, reaching £303 million, indicating a reciprocal growth in economic ties.

The trade activities supported approximately 2.6 million jobs in Romania in 2022, with around 103,600 jobs linked to exports to the UK. The BRCC, founded in 1998, continues to foster these important connections with offices in London, Bucharest, and Cluj-Napoca. As Romania secures its place as the 32nd largest trading partner of the UK, the outlook remains optimistic for continued growth and collaboration.
