Romania is set to receive around 60 billion euros from the upcoming multiyear European budget, which spans from 2028 to 2034. This funding is a vital component of the country's financial landscape, as it has already received over 100 billion euros from the European Union while contributing approximately 30 billion euros to the common European budget.

At the recent 'Transylvania EU Funds Day' event in Alba Iulia, europarliamentarian Victor Negrescu emphasized the importance of leveraging these funds effectively. He noted that more than 60% of current projects in Romania involve European funding, underlining the country's reliance on these resources for public investments.

Negrescu highlighted that 9 out of 10 public investments in Romania have been funded through EU money, reflecting a significant dependency on these external financial resources. He also pointed out that, for the first time, the majority of funds will be managed directly by Brussels, with over 55% of the budget being administered in this way.

With the European Commission proposing a multiyear budget of nearly 2 trillion euros, it is crucial for Romania to develop national plans approved by the European Commission. Negrescu remarked on the necessity of creating ecosystems that enhance Romania's competitiveness in securing these funds.

Furthermore, he stressed the need for Romania to present competitive projects that can stand alongside those from other member states. To bolster the national economy, he called for additional financial resources from the private sector and for counties and communities across Romania to have access to the funding needed for investment.

As discussions continue, a budget agreement is expected to be reached by the end of the year, paving the way for Romania to make the most of its European funding opportunities and prepare for future economic growth.
