Alba Iulia hosts pivotal debate on future of European funds
Alba Iulia is positioning itself as a symbol of European integration, hosting a significant debate on the future of European funds. This event brings together key figures, including Victor Negrescu, the Vice President of the European Parliament, who emphasized the transformative impact of European funds on Romania.
As Romania prepares for 2026, it is gearing up to launch financing through nearly all major European programs. This comes alongside ongoing negotiations regarding the future budget of the European Union, showcasing Romania's commitment to leveraging these resources for national growth.
The deadline for completing payments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is set for July 31, with the full implementation of projects needing to be finalized by the end of August. Cseke Attila, the interim Minister of Development, is overseeing this crucial phase as Romania strives to complete its PNRR projects.
Negrescu has pointed out that Romania has contributed approximately 30 billion euros to the European Union while receiving over 100 billion euros in return. He highlighted the necessity of utilizing these financial resources for projects that create added value and have a multiplier effect in local and national economies.
Looking ahead, Negrescu mentioned that future funding calls will focus on competitiveness and sustainability. He believes that Romanian projects should not only be impactful but also spark further local initiatives funded by community budgets, ensuring a lasting benefit for the economy.
