Romania to Build First Rowing Arena on Lake Pantelimon by 2028

The first rowing arena in Romania will be constructed on Lake Pantelimon, with completion expected by 2028. This ambitious project will significantly enhance the country’s rowing infrastructure and aims to host the European Senior Rowing Championships in the same year.

The total investment for the construction of the arena amounts to 3.2 million euros. Among the financial supporters, Petrom is contributing 1.7 million euros, while the Romanian Rowing Federation (FRC) is investing 1.5 million euros. This collaboration signifies a strong commitment to promoting rowing in Romania.

The Petrom Rowing Arena will meet Olympic standards and will feature a total area of 40,000 square meters, including a 10,000 square meter platform for stands, a control tower, and pontoons for boats. Notably, motorized boats will be prohibited on Lake Pantelimon, ensuring a serene environment for rowing events.

Marian Ivan, the mayor of Pantelimon, expressed enthusiasm about the arena, stating it will define the city’s identity for many years to come. The second phase of the project is set to include accommodation facilities for athletes, training rooms, and changing areas.

Elisabeta Lipă, the president of FRC, made the announcement during an event in Snagov. Olympic, world, and European medalist Ciprian Tudosă shared his excitement about potentially competing at home, in front of Romanian fans. As Romania prepares for the European Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy, from July 31 to August 2, the nation will be represented by 41 athletes, showcasing the growing talent and dedication to the sport.
