As of July 31, 2026, Romania boasts over 500,000 tourist accommodation places, a significant milestone for the country's hospitality sector. This achievement reflects a growth of 7.7% in tourist accommodation compared to the same date last year.

The total number of tourist reception structures has now reached 16,399, marking an increase of 2,074 units, or 14.5%, since July 31, 2025. This growth underscores the rising demand for diverse lodging options as more travelers explore Romania's beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage.

The capacity of tourist accommodations stands at 500,059 places, with a notable increase of 35,705 places compared to the previous year. However, the average capacity per structure has decreased slightly from 32.4 to 30.5 places, suggesting a trend towards smaller, more personalized accommodations.

Apartments and rented rooms have seen remarkable growth, with their number advancing by 30.3% to 6,474 structures. Their total capacity has surged by 32.7%, reaching 114,900 places, indicating a strong preference for home-like stays among visitors.

Hotels remain a major component of the accommodation landscape, accounting for 42.6% of total capacity. The hotel sector includes 1,696 units, providing 212,897 places, with a slight growth of 1.6% in the number of hotels and 0.7% in capacity since last year. Most hotels are rated three stars, comprising 54.5% of the total, while four-star hotels represent 29.2%.

Regional distribution shows that Constanța leads with 2,609 tourist reception units, concentrating 28.5% of the nation’s total accommodation places. Brașov follows with 1,553 units, contributing 7.6%, while Bucharest accounts for 5.8% of the total.

Tourist areas vary in capacity, with coastal resorts registering the highest at 135,473 places, followed by cities and county seats (109,881 places), while mountain resorts offer 93,734 places. The balneary resorts have 40,437 places, and the Danube Delta, including Tulcea, provides 12,642 places.
