Romania shines at Under-19 European Table Tennis Championships with mixed doubles medal

Romania has secured a medal in the mixed doubles event at the Under-19 European Table Tennis Championships. This achievement highlights the remarkable talent and dedication of young athletes representing the country.

The championships took place in Gondomar, Portugal, where Robert Istrate and Bianca Mei-Roșu showcased their skills by reaching the semifinals in the mixed doubles U19 category. They triumphed over the duo of Noah Lam from Norway and Veronika Polakova from the Czech Republic with a score of 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-2).

Looking ahead, Istrate and Mei-Roșu are set to face Portuguese team Tiago Abiodun and Mariana Santa Comba on Friday at 16:10, aiming for further success in the tournament.

In addition to mixed doubles, Romania's Robert Istrate and Robert Podar have qualified for the men's doubles event. The women's doubles category also saw Romanian pairs Alesia Sferlea and Patricia Stoica, Andreea Băiașu and Maria Stoian, as well as Bianca Mei-Roșu teaming up with Maria Berzosa from Spain, securing their spots in the competition.

While David Toro and Maya Madar reached the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles U15 category, narrowly losing to the Polish team of Ladimir Mayorov and Aleksandra Nawrocka with a score of 1-3 (6-11, 8-11, 13-11, 5-11), other young athletes like David Toro and Roger Quesada are also competing in the U19 doubles.

Kariss Șerban is set to play women's doubles with Zsofia Fegyver from Hungary, while Bianca Toma partners with Barbora Guassardo from Slovakia.

Romania's strong performance is further evidenced by the two silver medals won in the team events at the Under-19 level. Additionally, during the 2025 European Junior Championships held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Romania achieved two gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals, showcasing the country's growing presence in international table tennis.
