Romania shines at the International Physics Olympiad with five medals
Romania has made a remarkable mark at the 2026 International Physics Olympiad, securing two gold medals and three silver medals. This prestigious event took place in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from July 4 to 12, 2026, featuring 381 competitors from 90 countries.
Vlad Bolohan and Andrei Vila proudly represented Romania, each winning a gold medal. Their achievements highlight the talent and dedication of Romanian students in the field of physics.
The silver medals were earned by Rareş Muntean, Alexandru Jicu, and Alexandru Condrea, showcasing the depth of skill within the Romanian team. Their collective success reflects not only individual talent but also the supportive educational environment in Romania.
The Romanian team was expertly guided by conf. univ. dr. Sebastian Popescu from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iaşi and prof. dr. Gabriel Florian from the Colegiul Naţional Carol I in Craiova. Their leadership played a crucial role in the team's preparation and performance.
Coordination for the event was managed by the Ministry of Education and Research, specifically through the Department for Olympiads, Competitions, Partnerships, and Extracurricular Education, under the oversight of Prof. Elisabeta Ana Nagy, ensuring that the Romanian participants had the support they needed for this international competition.
