Romania sets the stage for energy independence with the installation of the Neptun Alpha platform

The recent installation of the Neptun Alpha offshore production platform marks a significant step towards Romania's energy independence. This platform, which stands over 225 meters tall and weighs approximately 16,500 tons, was successfully installed on the seabed of the Black Sea by Romgaz and OMV Petrom.

This strategic project, aimed at natural gas exploitation in the Black Sea, is crucial for enhancing Romania's energy security. The installation of the platform and the completion of a 160-kilometer pipeline that connects it to the shore were achieved with the help of specialized vessels over the past few months.

With production set to begin next year, the Neptun Deep project is poised to transform Romania into the largest gas producer in the European Union. As a result, the new gas supplies will not only support the country's industry and agriculture but also help maintain stable prices for consumers.

The Neptun Deep project is the largest natural gas exploitation initiative in Romania, and its success will solidify the country’s role as a key player in the energy security of the region. Continued work on the project is scheduled for the coming months, keeping it on track for production commencement in 2027.

Ilie Bolojan, the interim Prime Minister of Romania, emphasizes the importance of this development, which is expected to contribute significantly to both national and regional energy stability.
