Romania set to unveil Europe's highest pedestrian suspension bridge

19 Jun 2026, 19:27

Romania is about to make history with the construction of the highest pedestrian suspension bridge in Europe, soaring 200 meters above ground. This remarkable structure will be located in the stunning Rodna Mountains, near the village of Parva in Bistrița-Năsăud County.

The new bridge will surpass the Sellano Bridge in central Italy, which stands at 175 meters and has long been a popular spot for thrill-seekers. With its record height, the Romanian bridge is expected to attract visitors eager to experience breathtaking views and natural beauty.

Local authorities have officially signed the contract for the bridge's construction, with an investment of nearly 5 million euros funded by the North-West Regional Program. The project’s technical plans are expected to be finalized within three months.

Visitors will enjoy a scenic walk, covering the last kilometer and a half to reach the bridge. Additionally, the local government plans to acquire special transport vehicles to assist people with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy this new marvel.

Residents of the area are optimistic that this investment will stimulate local development and boost tourism. The first tourists are anticipated to step onto the bridge by autumn next year, marking a significant milestone for both the community and Romania.
