Romania has proudly secured its first medal at the 2026 European Table Tennis Championships, thanks to the impressive performance of Bernadette Szocs and Eduard Ionescu in the mixed doubles event.

The championships are taking place in Ljubljana, where Szocs and Ionescu have made a significant impact. They advanced to the semifinals after a thrilling victory over the French pair Pavade and Poret, winning 3-2.

Now, they are set to face the German duo of Mittelham and Duda in the semifinals, ensuring that they will leave with at least a bronze medal in hand.

In addition to their success in mixed doubles, Szocs has also excelled in women's doubles alongside Eliza Samara, reaching the quarterfinals. Furthermore, Szocs showcased her talent in singles by defeating Spain's Sofia-Xuan Zhang with a score of 4-1 in the first round.

Eduard Ionescu contributed to the Romanian team's success by winning his singles match against Hungary's Adam Szudi, finishing with a score of 4-2. Iulian Chirița also continued to shine in singles, overcoming Germany's Ricardo Walther, ranked #61, with a score of 4-1.
