Romania secures a solid victory against Ukraine in friendly match

Romania celebrated a commendable 3-1 victory over Ukraine in a friendly match held in Blaj. The match marked the first of five scheduled friendlies, with set scores of 27-25, 25-18, 22-25, and 25-21 showcasing Romania's competitive spirit.

Looking ahead, Romania will face two crucial tests against the Czech Republic on August 6 and 7, followed by a trip to Boari for matches against Italy on August 12 and 13. Italy, a finalist in the upcoming 2026 Volleyball Nations League, will provide a strong challenge as Romania prepares for the European Championship.

The 2026 European Championship is set to take place from August 21 to September 6, across Turkey, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, and Sweden. Romania will compete in Group C, with matches lined up against the Netherlands on August 22, Azerbaijan on August 24, Belgium on August 25, Portugal on August 27, and Spain on August 28.

The top four teams from the group stage will advance to the knockout rounds, with matches taking place in Istanbul. The quarter-finals will be held in Istanbul and Brno, while the semi-finals and finals will also take place in Istanbul. In the last edition of the tournament, Romania finished in 11th place, and the team will be eager to improve its standing this time around.
