Romania prepares for its 25th Eurovision Song Contest participation

Romania is set to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest for the 25th time, a significant milestone for the country. The decision was approved by the Romanian Television Society's Board of Administration with 11 votes in favor and one abstention.

The 71st edition of Eurovision will take place in May 2027, hosted in Bulgaria. This decision aligns with Romania's commitment to participate within the budget approved for the year 2027.

In the 2026 edition, Romania made a notable impression, securing third place in the Grand Final with Alexandra Căpitănescu’s entry, "Choke me," which earned 296 points. The National Selection for that year showcased a remarkable 101 submitted songs, reflecting the vibrant musical talent in the country.

Eurovision is organized under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest association of public broadcasters in Europe. Since its launch in 1956, the contest has grown into one of the most-watched television events globally, attracting over 160 million viewers across Europe, Australia, Asia, and America. The 2026 event generated significant media buzz, with 21,565 mentions in the Romanian media alone.
