Romania enhances military capabilities with acquisition of 12 Airbus H225M helicopters
Romania is set to enhance its military capabilities by acquiring 12 multi-role Airbus H225M helicopters, a significant step towards modernizing its air force. This acquisition, which is valued at over 800 million euros, marks a pivotal moment in the transition from the older IAR-330 Puma helicopters.
The helicopters are designed for complex missions, ranging from conventional operations to special missions, reflecting Romania's commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities. The choice to invest in the Airbus H225M, with each unit costing over 70 million euros, underscores the country's strategic focus on advanced military technology.
This procurement is being conducted through the General Directorate for Armament (DGA) in France and is supported by the European initiative SAFE (Security Action for Europe). This initiative not only enhances Romania's military readiness but also significantly boosts its interoperability with NATO allies.
The official confirmation of this agreement was shared through announcements from both the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) and Airbus, marking a clear pathway towards a more capable and prepared Romanian military. This acquisition is not just a purchase; it represents a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Romania and its allies.
