Romania and India forge historic agreements in science and education

The recent visit of India's President Droupadi Murmu marks a significant milestone in Romania-India relations, as it is the first visit by an Indian head of state to Romania in over three decades. This historic moment was celebrated by Romanian officials, including Nicușor Dan, who emphasized the importance of this event for both countries.

On July 23, Romania and India signed a cooperation program in science and technology, alongside two agreements between the University of Bucharest and the University of New Delhi. These accords not only strengthen academic ties but also pave the way for a new Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Bucharest and a Chair of Romanian Civilization at the University of New Delhi.

Nicușor Dan highlighted the nearly 80-year history of diplomatic relations between Romania and India, noting that the agreements signed are expected to lead to significant economic developments. He expressed optimism about the potential for increased Romanian investments in India and vice versa, as well as the establishment of a direct air link between the two nations.

Additionally, the agreements encompass collaboration in the field of sports, showcasing a broad approach to enhancing bilateral relations. Dan's discussions also included condolences for the four Indian soldiers who tragically lost their lives in an attack near Odessa on July 19, reflecting on the current geopolitical climate and its implications for both countries.

President Murmu's visit is part of her state tour across three European countries, having visited Moldova and North Macedonia prior to arriving in Romania. The signing of these agreements represents not only a commitment to collaboration but also an opportunity for both nations to explore new horizons together.
