A 38-year-old woman, who had suffered a ruptured aneurysm, has become a beacon of hope for patients in Romania and Greece through her family's decision to donate her organs.

Following her tragic condition of being declared brain dead, extensive efforts were made to retrieve her organs. Multiple teams from both Romania and abroad joined forces to ensure that her heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and tissues could be utilized to save lives.

The heart was successfully retrieved by a team from Târgu Mureş, while the lungs, which could not find a compatible recipient in Romania, were taken by a team from Greece. The liver transplant is currently underway at the Spitalul „Sfântul Spiridon” in Iaşi, and kidney transplant procedures are being conducted at the Spitalul Clinic „Dr. C.I. Parhon” in Iaşi.

Additionally, the osteotendinous tissue was collected by the team from the Banca de Ţesuturi at the Spitalul Clinic de Urgenţă 'Colentina' in Bucharest. In the coming days, corneas will also be transplanted at the Spitalul „Sfântul Spiridon,” providing further hope for those in need of sight restoration.

Dr. Raluca Neagu, the coordinator of the Centrului de Transplant Iaşi, has been instrumental in overseeing these critical procedures, highlighting the collaborative spirit and commitment to saving lives in the medical community.
