Ominimo achieves unicorn status and expands to Oradea
Ominimo, a technology insurance startup, has officially become a unicorn, achieving a valuation of at least 1 billion dollars following a successful funding round in late July. This remarkable milestone demonstrates the potential of innovative solutions in the insurance sector, particularly those driven by artificial intelligence.
Founded in 2024 by former McKinsey & Company consultants Dušan Komar (CEO), Laslo Horvath (CTO), and Dennis Weinbender, Ominimo specializes in enhancing insurance operations through advanced data science and software development. Their unique approach not only improves pricing accuracy but also automates various insurance operations, offering a more streamlined experience for clients.
In exciting news for the Romanian market, Ominimo recently opened a branch in Oradea, which was established at the end of last year. This expansion is part of their broader strategy to enter several markets, including Romania, following successful operations in countries like Poland, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
The parent company of Ominimo in Oradea is Ominimo Sweden AB. Under the leadership of Zekany Kristof, the managing director of Ominimo Hungary, the new branch is set to play a significant role in the company's growth trajectory.
The recent funding round, which raised 200 million dollars in Series A financing, was led by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and includes strategic partnership with Zurich Insurance, a minority shareholder in Ominimo. With these developments, Ominimo is well-positioned to continue its impressive journey in the insurtech landscape.
