Nidec plans to relocate UK factory to Oradea, boosting local industry

Nidec is preparing to relocate its Control Techniques Dynamics factory from Andover, UK, to Oradea, Romania. This factory has been producing electric motors, generators, and transformers since 1964, and its move could significantly enhance Nidec's operations in Romania.

The relocation aims to integrate the Andover operations into Nidec's existing facility in Oradea, which is already one of the group's most important units in Romania. Nidec currently operates multiple industrial facilities in the country, and this move reflects their commitment to the local market.

Nidec has begun official consultations with employees and their representatives regarding the proposed move. While the decision is not final, it could affect approximately 60 jobs in Andover if approved, with the factory set to close in February 2027.

The company has established a strong presence in Romania, having inaugurated the largest electric motor factory in the country in Ștefănești in 2018. Nidec's operations in Oradea reported a remarkable 60% increase in business in 2025, reaching over 52.3 million euros, and employed 508 people.

With combined revenues of nearly 80 million euros reported last year, Nidec's growth in Romania demonstrates its significance within the European market. Founded in 1973 in Kyoto, Nidec Corporation operates in over 40 countries and employs more than 140,000 individuals worldwide.
