New express road project set to enhance connectivity in Romania
A significant advancement in Romania's infrastructure is on the horizon with the announcement of a new express road project. The Târgu Jiu – Filiași express road will be a crucial part of the high-speed road connection leading to Craiova, aiming to improve transport efficiency in the region.
This express road will stretch nearly 20 kilometers, specifically covering Lot 6, which includes vital components like a 644-meter viaduct, a two-gallery tunnel, and 25 additional structures. Notably, the project also features an ecoduct to protect local wildlife, a road junction connecting to Târgu Jiu's beltway, and a maintenance and coordination center.
The contract for designing and executing this project was awarded on Tuesday to the winning bidder, a partnership led by Kalyon Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi and SC MIS GRUP SRL. The total contract price stands at approximately 1.998 billion lei, excluding VAT, with a projected timeline of 34 months for completion—10 months for design and 24 months for construction.
Local officials, including Radu Miruță, have described this project as a moral repair and a justified development for a county impacted by energy transition. Horațiu Cosma emphasized the contract's significance in achieving a high-speed connection between Gorj and the national network of highways and express roads.
The entire corridor from Craiova to Târgu Jiu includes a total of six lots, of which three are highways between Craiova and Filiași, and three are express roads from Filiași to Târgu Jiu. The designation of the winner for this sector sends a clear signal that the project is set to move forward, marking a new chapter for infrastructural growth in the region.
