New 12.24 km stretch of highway opens in Sălaj, enhancing travel efficiency
Today marks a significant milestone for road travel in Romania as the new 12.24 km stretch of highway between Zimbor and Românași officially opened to traffic. This development is set to alleviate heavy traffic congestion and reduce travel times in the Sălaj county.
The opening of this section, part of the A3 highway, took place on Tuesday afternoon at 16:00. Cristian Pistol, the General Director of CNAIR, announced the good news and shared stunning drone footage showcasing the new roadway.
This newly opened stretch is the first highway section inaugurated this year, bringing Romania's total to 1,430 km of operational high-speed roads. Looking ahead, an additional 56.41 km of the Transilvania highway is expected to be opened later this year, including the Nădășelu – Mihăești, Mihăești-Zimbor, and Suplacu de Barcău - Chiribiș sections.
The construction of the Zimbor-Poarta Sălajului section was carried out by the partnership of SC SA&PE Construct SRL, SC Spedition UMB SRL, and SC Tehnostrade SRL. The contract for this project amounted to 836.89 million lei, excluding VAT, and was financed through the Transport Program (2021-2027). The opening of this highway segment represents not just an infrastructure improvement but also a positive step towards enhancing connectivity and travel efficiency in the region.
