ING Bank România welcomes 120,000 new customers in 2026
In the first half of 2026, ING Bank România welcomed an impressive 120,000 new customers, with half of them being under the age of 24. This surge in clientele is a testament to the bank's ongoing commitment to engaging young people and providing accessible banking solutions.
The bank reported total revenues of 2.1 billion lei during this period, marking a 1.6% increase compared to the same timeframe last year. Despite this growth in revenue, the gross profit saw a decline of 29.2% from the first semester of 2025, totaling 667.4 million lei.
Credit activity thrived, with a notable 14.9% increase in volumes, reaching a total of 52 billion lei. Meanwhile, deposits grew by 5.4%, amounting to 72.5 billion lei. These figures reflect the bank's solid performance in fostering financial trust and stability among its customers.
ING Bank România's customer base now includes 2 million active users out of a total of 2.2 million. Over 90% of these customers actively utilize the bank's products and services, showcasing a strong engagement level.
In its efforts towards sustainability, ING Bank has mobilized over 810 million euros for projects aimed at transitioning to a low-carbon economy. The bank also participated in Romania's sovereign bond issuance of 4 billion dollars, structured in three tranches with maturities of 5, 10, and 30 years.
In support of energy efficiency, the bank has introduced the ING Personal Eco product, offering a fixed interest rate of 5.99%. Additionally, the organization EFdeN launched a free digital energy efficiency simulator with the bank's assistance.
Digital services have seen significant uptake, with 92% of new businesses opting for online account openings and the proportion of digital closures rising to 82%. The addition of users through the ING Business platform advanced to 56%, while the onboarding process for Classic POS reached 69%.
In a bid to empower women entrepreneurs, nearly 1,000 businesses have enrolled in the program She's Next. The initiative awarded prizes to standout participants, including Iulia Suciu from ZEN-VITA, who won 30,000 euros, and Cristina Olteanu from AlbAlb, who received 20,000 euros, along with Carina Sava from Watermelon Agency, who was awarded 10,000 euros.
As CEO Mihaela Bîtu noted, the first half of the year has marked a solid start for ING Bank România, indicating a promising future ahead for both the bank and its customers.
