17 Jun 2026, 14:22

The upcoming exhibition titled "Great Architectural Treasures of European Streets (GATES)" will celebrate the historical gates of Sibiu, Opole, and Valencia. This significant event will take place at the Universitatea „Lucian Blaga” din Sibiu, highlighting the shared architectural heritage of these cities.

Hosted by the Department of History, Heritage, and Protestant Theology, the exhibition will be located in the faculty foyer at Strada Victoriei nr. 5-7. The vernissage is scheduled for 29 June 2026, at 12:00, inviting the public to explore the rich history behind these architectural features.

The GATES project aims to provide a comparative exploration of the heritage doors and gates, emphasizing the common architectural landscape among the three cities. It also seeks to unveil lesser-known historical parallels across Europe, offering a deeper understanding of urban history and cultural dialogue.

Targeting those interested in urban history, built heritage, architecture, art history, and European intercultural dialogue, the exhibition promises to engage a diverse audience. The project is coordinated by the Universitatea „Lucian Blaga” din Sibiu, with partners from the University of Opole in Poland and the University of Valencia in Spain.

The exhibition will also be hosted at all three participating universities, showcasing the collaborative effort behind this initiative. Curated by Lect. univ. dr. Anamaria Tudorie, Lect. univ. dr. Daniela Stanciu-Păscarița, and Lect. univ. dr. Răzvan C. Pop, the event has received official approval from the Senate, marking a significant milestone in promoting cultural heritage and architectural appreciation in Romania and beyond.
