Craiova's new multi-purpose hall set to become a hub for sports and culture
Craiova is on the brink of a significant transformation with the nearing completion of Romania's second largest multi-purpose hall. The new venue will boast an impressive capacity of over 8,000 seats and is set to host national and international competitions in cycling, athletics, and various indoor sports within the next two years.
Located just a stone's throw from the Ion Oblemenco Stadium, the new hall will feature Romania's first indoor velodrome, marking a milestone for the country's sporting infrastructure. Construction began two years ago, and while the anticipated completion date is August 2027, the project is progressing steadily, with nearly 90% of the structure already completed.
The multi-purpose hall will not only serve as a sports venue but will also include spaces for concerts and artistic events, catering to a variety of cultural activities. Additional amenities will feature training rooms, treatment facilities for athletes, and even a museum, making it a comprehensive complex for both athletes and visitors alike.
With a total investment of 75 million euros, this ambitious project reflects the commitment of local authorities, including Cosmin Vasile, the president of the Dolj County Council, to enhance the region's attractiveness as a sports and cultural destination. As the works continue, the complex promises to bring a new level of excitement and opportunity to Craiova, benefiting both residents and visitors.
