Cognizant invests over $500,000 to enhance digital skills in Romania

Cognizant is making a significant commitment to the future of tech education in Romania with an investment of over $500,000 in the Cognizant Future Talent in Tech Romania initiative. This long-term initiative brings together three educational projects aimed at improving digital skills among the youth.

The projects, carried out by the Association for Values in Education, the Something New Christian Association, and the Casa Bună Association, directly impact over 860 beneficiaries and indirectly benefit more than 4,000 individuals across the country. In a context where only 53.3% of Romanian youth aged 16 to 24 possess at least basic digital skills, initiatives like these are crucial, especially considering Romania ranks second to last in the EU for digital competencies.

Cognizant Romania, with over 2,500 employees and offices in cities including Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara, and Baia Mare, is playing a pivotal role in addressing these educational gaps. The Casa Bună project, for instance, plans to hold 13 remedial educational camps during the 2026 and 2027 school breaks, providing intensive literacy and math sessions for 100 children aged 5 to 14 from vulnerable communities in Ferentari, Jilava, and Argeș County.

Additionally, the EDUBus project aims to bring modern education to seven villages in Cluj and Sălaj counties, reaching 500 children, 150 mothers, and 36 teachers. Another important aspect is the relaunch of the School Management and Leadership Academy (ALMS) by the Association for Values in Education, which will utilize the Polaris digital platform to enhance the training of school directors using artificial intelligence.

Something New has also made a substantial impact, having supported over 2,500 children and 480 mothers through more than 56 social actions, with their Community Center located in Dezmir, Cluj County. With the support of fiscal incentives that allow 20% of corporate tax to be directed to NGOs, the future of tech education in Romania looks promising, as these initiatives strive to uplift and empower the next generation.
