On Saturday, August 8, at 21:00, music lovers will gather at TVR Cultural for a special concert titled 'Contemporan în România,' celebrating the influential jazz musician Mircea Tiberian. This event will feature a poignant memorial moment with saxophonist Nicolas Simion and singer Nadia Trohin, both of whom carry forward Tiberian's rich musical legacy.

Mircea Tiberian, who passed away in October 2025, left behind an impressive catalog of 25 albums and was honored six times with the Award of the Union of Composers and Musicologists of Romania. He was also a founding figure of the jazz department at the National University of Music in Bucharest, shaping the future of jazz education in Romania.

The concert will showcase a variety of original compositions, including 'Stelele-n Cer' by Sebastian Burneci, 'Spiralele Timpului' by Robert Cozma, 'Silent Shouting' by Paolo Profeti, 'Pilgrimage' by Cătălin Milea, 'Aquarius Universe' by Nicu Patoi, and 'No Name Funk' by Nicolas Simion. Each piece highlights the innovative spirit of contemporary Romanian jazz.

Simion, who studied at the Brașov Music High School and continued his classical music education at the Academy of Music in Bucharest, emigrated to the West in 1989. He released his first CD, 'Black Sea,' in 1992 and has collaborated with renowned American musicians such as Graham Haynes and Mal Waldron.

Nadia Trohin, a doctor in music and assistant lecturer at the jazz department of the National University of Music, will also take center stage, ensuring that Tiberian's contributions to the music scene are celebrated and remembered. The concert is directed by Aurel Badea, with Gabriel Enulescu as the director of photography and Nicolae Cozma as the TV producer. This event promises to be a heartfelt tribute to a true pioneer of Romanian jazz.
