București-Ilfov records impressive economic growth among EU regions
The București-Ilfov region has emerged as a standout performer, witnessing a remarkable growth of over 33% in GDP per capita from 2019 to 2024. This places it among the top regions in the European Union for economic expansion during this period.
According to Eurostat, the growth rate of București-Ilfov is significant, especially when compared to other regions. For instance, the Eastern and Midland region of Ireland topped the list with a 38% increase, followed closely by Northern and Southern Ireland with a growth of 36.4%.
Malta also showcased robust economic performance with a 32.9% increase, while the French ultraperipheral region of Mayotte recorded a growth of 32.1%. In contrast, the overall GDP of the European Union grew by 5.6% during the same timeframe.
Notably, out of 244 regions classified by the EU's common territorial units, 197 experienced growth, while 46 regions saw a decline in GDP per capita. Only one region, Ciudad de Ceuta in Spain, remained unchanged.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Bulgarian region of Yugoiztochen faced the most significant contraction, with a drop of 20.5%. Other regions, such as Dytiki Makedonia in Greece and Groningen in the Netherlands, also recorded declines, reflecting the varied economic landscapes across Europe.
Amidst these contrasts, București-Ilfov's achievement stands as a beacon of positive economic progress, highlighting the potential for growth in Romania's capital and its surrounding areas.
