Bitdefender achieves over 2 billion lei in annual revenue for 2025
In 2025, Bitdefender SRL surpassed 2 billion lei in revenue, reaching a remarkable total of 2,024,123,442 lei. This achievement marks a 10% increase compared to the previous year, showcasing the company's strong performance in the cybersecurity sector.
Despite the growth in revenue, Bitdefender's profit for 2025 was reported at 217,601,467 lei, reflecting a 9% decline from 2024. This decrease comes amidst strategic changes within the company, including reprioritization of projects to better focus their efforts.
Bitdefender continues to expand its workforce, with an average of 1,665 employees in 2025, an increase of 15 employees from the previous year. However, the company announced plans to lay off “less than 7%” of its staff, affecting 125 employees in the Business Solutions Group division in Romania, as well as roles in North America.
Romania remains a vital pillar for Bitdefender's global operations, especially in research and development. The company boasts five R&D centers in major cities including Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara, and Târgu Mureș.
Founded in Bucharest by Măriuca and Florin Talpeș, Bitdefender has a rich history dating back to 1990 when the duo established Softwin, initially focused on outsourcing. The brand evolved significantly, rebranding from the AVX antivirus to Bitdefender in 2001 and later separating from Softwin in 2007 to pursue international expansion.
In December 2021, Bitdefender took a significant step towards a potential U.S. IPO by filing a project statement with the American Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Although the listing has yet to materialize, the company’s trajectory continues to reflect growth and innovation in the tech industry.
