Arad introduces the country's most affordable public transport with new ticket prices

From August 1, passengers in Arad will benefit from the country's most affordable public transport, with a single ticket costing just 1 leu and valid for 24 hours. This significant reduction from the current price of 4.5 lei for a 90-minute journey marks a major step in making public transportation more accessible to everyone.

The changes come as part of a broader initiative approved by local councilors on May 27, aimed at reducing air pollution and traffic congestion in the city. Director of CTP Arad, Claudiu Godja, emphasized the importance of these measures for both the environment and the community.

In addition to the new ticket pricing, weekly and monthly subscriptions have also seen substantial cuts. A weekly pass will now cost just 5 lei, while a monthly subscription is reduced to 20 lei from the previous 120 lei. These changes are sure to encourage more residents to choose public transport over private vehicles.

The new tickets will be available for purchase at station ticket offices and online, with modifications to the electronic system scheduled for the night of July 31 into August 1. CTP also continues its 'Vinerea Verde' program, allowing free rides on Fridays to promote the use of public transport.

To enhance passenger experience, all transport vehicles are equipped with GPS, and information is readily accessible through the 'Transport Public Arad' mobile application and display boards at stations. Despite a current personnel deficit of 16%, with 15 tram drivers and 5 bus drivers needed, CTP remains committed to providing efficient and eco-friendly transport solutions.

The introduction of electric public transport is a vital part of Arad’s strategy to lower carbon dioxide emissions, making public transport not only a convenient choice but an environmentally responsible one. As the city prepares for these changes, it stands as a model for how public transport can evolve for the better.
