Alstom opens state-of-the-art testing laboratory in Bucharest to advance rail signaling innovation
Alstom has inaugurated its renovated and expanded testing laboratory in Bucharest, a significant investment of over 1 million euros that underscores the company's commitment to engineering excellence.
The new facility, named the Field Integration and Validation Platform (FIVP), enhances Alstom’s capacity to develop, integrate, and validate advanced rail signaling and electrification solutions for projects in Romania and beyond.
The modernized laboratory reflects Alstom's vision for the future, providing an improved environment for innovation, testing, collaboration, and solution development. It enables engineering teams to simulate real operating conditions, allowing for comprehensive testing of complete signaling solutions in an integrated setting.
Bogdan Cozoş, General Director for Digital and Integrated Systems (D&IS) at Alstom Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova, emphasized that innovation gains meaning only when it translates into safer and more reliable mobility. The expanded FIVP will facilitate the development and validation of the next generation of signaling and electrification solutions.
This significant expansion marks a notable increase in testing capacity, allowing teams to conduct two complete system tests simultaneously or up to six subsystem tests. Engineering teams can validate how different components of a signaling solution work together, enhancing the overall reliability of rail systems.
With a pioneering role in modernizing rail transport for over 30 years in Romania, Alstom continues to showcase its leadership in the rail signaling and electrification market. The renovated laboratory will support Alstom projects in Romania, Europe, and other international markets.
The facility will be operated by Alstom Romania's signaling engineering community, which comprises over 200 engineers, software specialists, testers, and rail signaling experts. Their expertise supports both national and international projects, encouraging knowledge exchange, attracting new talent, and strengthening Romania's position as a key engineering hub for Alstom.
